27 Santas and an Elf Called Kevin adds Shows in NYC

27 Santas and an Elf Called Kevin adds Shows in NYC

The new holiday musical is a hit with New York families 27santabannernew

Due to popular demand, 27 Santas and an Elf Called Kevin is adding New York City Performances for the holiday vacation week. The 60-minute holiday show, with original book and music by Andy Street and Jonathan Kydd, will play at the Broadway Comedy Club in Times Square and tour area theaters December 7-28, 2014. Tickets to the Manhattan performances can be purchased for $30-60 via Ovationtix (866-811-4111) For more tour dates and discount tickets to NYC performances online go to www.nysanta.us.

The production is to be directed by the show’s composer, Andy Street. Mr. Street has been developing this project for the past four years while still working as musical associate and vocal coach for American Idol on FOX. Mr. Street has also written for other Nigel Lythgoe productions including “So You Think You Can Dance”.

Children of all ages have heard Mr. Streets original compositions in many of the popular children’s TV shows in the past decades. Most known for the award winning "Madeline", Mr. Street has composed and arranged for “Strawberry Shortcake”, “Angelina Ballerina”, “Double Dragon”, “Hurricanes” and “Ultraforce”.

Mr. Street is very excited to be bringing a variation of the British Holiday Pantomime to the New York stage. The theatrical form is a huge hit on nearly every West End stage in London during the holidays. Silly slap-stick fun for all ages is combined with witty banter, great music and even some dance, with the help of Choreographer, Kelly Dacus-Smith.

A troupe of performers take on multiple characters, headed by Walt Frasier (Lilyhammer, Royal Pains, Blue Bloods) as both Santa and the evil twin Gunta. Patrick Reidy takes on the other title role, Kevin, but also appears as McNasty the Goblin. Elizabeth Greenfeld, William Goulet Kean, and Laurice Fattal all play multiple characters from elves, reindeer and a few other characters you will just have to witness for yourself.

The award-winning producing team of Randy Donaldson (Scottsboro Boys, Pee Wee Herman, Triassic Parq, Falling for Eve), John Velasco-Mills and Marc Jacobson invite you to this wonderful show that is sure to become a permanent New York City holiday destination.

PRESS RELEASE
Sunday, November 09, 2014 – New York, NY – With original book, lyrics and music by Andy Street and Jonathan Kydd, “27 Santas and an Elf Called Kevin” puts an all new spin on the holiday characters we know and love, while introducing a few new characters kids of all ages will love. The New York tour starts at the Broadway Comedy Club (318 West 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019) on December 7, 2014 and when head upstate to the Paramount (Peekskill, NY) and Emelin (Mamaroneck, NY) theaters Dec 13-21.
Santa Claus is coming to town! But so is his jealous twin brother Gunta who’d like to be the top man, himself. The good news is that elves Mitch, Pru, and Jill, and Kevin, of course, are just the ones to outwit the evil Gunta and his hench-elves, Bob and McNasty.
It all plays out in the wonderful musical about saving the magic of Christmas by Andy Street and Jonathan Kydd. Andy wrote music for Sesame Street, Madeline and Strawberry Shortcake before becoming an American Idol coach and adjudicator.
The mini tour starts off where the show has showcased and workshop for the past three years, the Broadway Comedy Club. On Sunday December 7, the show will be presented at 1 & 4pm.
Don’t miss your chance to get a holiday photo with Santa. We’ll take a limited number after each show, so order yours today! VIP TICKET HOLDERS at the Off Broadway performances will be invited on stage to meet Santa and Kevin.
More production information on showtimes and tickets can be found at www.fpny.org/27santas.

Becoming Famous in 2014 - Alex from Target

Ever since I started teaching comedy to teens, I have been a huge advocate of youtube channels. Want a career, start creating now. You create work showcasing your talents and you begin to market yourself to the world.

You don't really need a good camera. And you don't really need talent. Now making stupid 6-second videos can land you a TV or Film deal. Get a biog enough following on twitter, Vine, Youtube etc and you can sell tickets to your own shows, tshirts, ad space on your channels...

To many this idea seams bizarre and far fetched. For most it will be. But even those not getting famous over night, these tools develop talent and brand.

ABC - Always Be Creating!!!

ROB THE VOTE NOVEMBER 4, 2014

Walt Frasier as MORE MICHAELS (AKA Michael Moore)
Caroline's Comedy Club, NYC
Nov 1, 2004
Night before 2004 Presidential elections
Exactly 10 years ago, EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH produced a tour called ROB THE VOTE. In 2 months the show performed at a number of clubs (Rascals, Gotham, Caroline's), Theaters (Wings, Kraine, Under St Marks) and even some John Kerry fundraisers at Don't Tell Mamas.

We had fun with everyone RIGHT & LEFT.

I encourage ALL youth to educate themselves about your own country. Don't listen to rumor and speculation from friends and family. Watch the news. READ!!! Get to know your elected officials. if you like what they say - or more importantly DO - go vote to make sure they stay representing you. If you do not like what they say, GO VOTE THEM OUT and give someone else a chance.

You will never hear me say VOTE FOR THIS GUY/GAL. I make fun of all of them. But the day you turn 18 you can do two things. Fight for your country and Vote your will. You may be in the minority on some issues and things may not go your way. But far to often the minority opinion wins because their leader screamed louder and motivated their base to vote. Those thinking all is well stay home and are shocked when things change against their wishes.

Want to know a secret?

Our leaders fear you, the youth of America. You have opinions. You are smart. BUT you often do not participate in the process, and that empowers those working against your best interests.

CHANGE THE GAME!

ROB THE VOTE! was all about inspiring the young to VOTE their will and opinion. If everyone 18-25 voted, BIG CHANGES would happen in this country. 10 years later (now 40+) I may not as big a fan of what YOU want to happen, but I still support YOU making yourselves heard. One person can make a difference when ONE person becomes a crowd. It starts with ONE. It starts with YOU>

SO GO ROB THE VOTE!!!

Planning for College, Auditions, Classes - great Resources

PLAYBILL EDU - I just discovered this and thought I should share. Great resource for those planning college for an arts career.

PLAYBILL - Playbill is a great resource for keeping up with Broadway News and finding Auditions and other jobs in the arts. FREE casting notices.

BACKSTAGE - This is a subscription site. You can browse for free to a point. But when you are ready to be a working actor, join and go audition every week. Daily when possible. Finding work as an actor is not that different than any other job. You have to leave the house and go interview - we just do it with monologues and songs.

ACTORS ACCESS - Tons of paid film work. Eventually you need an agent, but you can find work in student films and non-union projects, Indy films and sometimes even get yourself cast on legit TV, Film and commercials. Free to browse. You have to pay to submit yourself. When serious, go ahead and pay for the annual breakdown submission service that allows you to submit w/o additional fees (usually $2/submission).

January / February American South East Improv Tour of K-12 Schools

"A Production you and your children don't want to miss!" - ABC NEWS

Improv 4 Teens heads south this winter. Party inspired by the weather this past winter and calls from colleges and K-12 schools in North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. In the past 12 months we have presented over 600 shows for K-12 / Family Audiences at our NYC theater and touring nationwide...

Check out the reasons to bring this program to your school at http://teenimprov.blogspot.com/p/teen-outreach-programs.html

Improv 4 Teens (Improv 4 Kids Grades K-5) is the perfect show in school, after school and for evening events - PTA nights, fundraisers, drama department events etc. At many high schools we partner with the local student Improv team for a great show. In many districts we will play to the grade, middle and high school in one day, off setting the cost of a professional show out of NYC over 2-4 schools/day.

Not just a cultural arts presentation, this show has been presented via Language Arts Departments, Counseling, PTA / PTO / PTSA, and Drama / Fine Arts. One of the most fun you and your students will ever have, Improv shows & workshops provides a wealth of educational value.

RESIDENCIES

We have teachers all over the area every week providing 10-30 students training in Improv Comedy. These students really become leaders at the school. Many big personalities need to find focus. But when they do, they are instoppable in the best possible way. At the end of each 6-15 week session the students are ready to perform a showcase at school. But far more than that they become class/school leaders and better students. They learn how to listen, create and process information. They engage in current events and the worlds. They face their fears and inhibitions and turn weaknesses into strengths. Some of our high school students have become interns and even full time professional company members. One of these students,. Bandon Ford (Queens Prep Academy) got a job teaching theater at a summer camp this year. Another, Noel Olivencia (Prep Academy for Writers) is now managing a food service business AND has appeared on MTV.

We have current and past residencies at the following...
NEST+m Manhattan
The Summit School
JCC Manhattan
Queens Prep Academy
Flushing High School
Prep Academy for Writers
Renaisance High School (Harlem)
Gilda's Club Camp Sparkle
Broadway Comedy Club public classes for Kids and Teens

Don't take our word for it...
Regarding shows, workshops and residencies - Lisa Palotti (Speech Teacher) to John Renner (Principal) from Summit School Queens

"Here's my report: OMG it was awesome! Truly one of the best activities I've ever seen take place here at Summit! We gave them a very large group of kids to work with, and they handled them wonderfully. The way that they related to the kids was terrific, and the activities they led worked on so many pragmatic language skills in SUCH an effective way, including increasing the kids' awareness of their bodies in space, body proximity, eye contact, voice, and generally how others perceive them from their non-verbal cues. They also did word association and one-word stories that involved verbal expression and required kids to follow a story line. Almost all of the kids looked like they were having a fantastic time, and it was an activity where the shy kids could get to interact with others in a very structured (hence comfortable) way. At the end I spoke to the three members of the improv group and raved about how great they were and told them the specific ways that the activities helped our students. They asked me a number of questions, such as regarding how to handle various students' behaviors, and we talked about upcoming activities."

Improv Comedy Troupe tackles Anti Bully Issues at NYC Schools

Improv Comedy Troupe tackles Anti Bully Issues at NYC Schools
Improv 4 Kids & Teens teach community and leadership skills to NYC Students

Monday May 12, 2014  NEW YORK, NY -  One of the greatest problems facing schools today is the community of bully behavior on campus, online and in the community. One New York City Comedy troupe is taking their skills to the front line via shows, workshops and residencies.

Since 2002, Eight Is Never Enough Improv Comedy troupe (AKA the original  Improv 4 Kids and Improv 4 Teens) has performed over 4000 educational outreach shows at K-12 schools, camp and hosting student groups / field trips at their Times Square Theater.  As the Anti-Bully movement has gained momentum in recent years, coupled with far-too-often tragedy reported in the news, the troupe has answered the call.

“The popularity of Improv Comedy on TV currently allows us to connect with students in a unique way” says co-founder, Laurice Fattal. “Then we have their attention as we teach valuable team skills and self-confidence.”

“These skills we teach have been known in the theater community for centuries,” adds Artistic Director, Walt Frasier. “But by calling ours selves ‘Comedy’ we are the cool thing to all students”

The troupe introduces the program via an interactive show similar to “Whose Line IS It Anyway”. Frasier says they includes Anti-Bully themes but avoid sounding preachy. “We get a conversation going” Says Frasier. “Many students are thinking the same thing, but because of insecurities and outright fear, fail to share”. Via Study Guides the shows alone introduce and teach Cultural Arts (Music & Theatre), Language Arts (Story Telling, Creativity), and Character Building (Leadership).

After a show, the troupe will break into smaller groups and teach basic Improv games. “Improv is one of the funnest ways to teach public speaking and team work,” exclaims Fattal.

Overcoming basic fears (such as speaking in public) - and learning to converse in a way that builds connections (“YES! And…” is rule #1 in Improv) - serves two purposes. Students are less likely to be effected by bully behaviors. And students are less likely to take out their insecurities in form of bully behavior.

In a few schools, the troupe has grown to a third stage of the program. “Our residencies create leaders” says Frasier. While the workshops teach leadership, the residency program develops these skills in a few that can help build the entire community.

Similarly the troupe offers professional develop for teachers. These workshops – similar to the corporate team building offered by the troupe – brings the community together as well as show teachers how to continue the work long after the troupe moves on to the next school.
