Do what the animals do....

This blog is an addendum to TEEN OUTREACH PROGRAM PAGE

Translating at the jargon into practical use...

In the animal world ALPHAs (Pack Leaders) stare down would be challengers and followers with simple physical presence and and eye contact. Most often the pack will submit without physical altercation.  When a challenger does not back down, physical altercations occur.

Humans really are not that different. And often a very intelligent person will lose to a "Leader" that is not afraid to make eye contact, speak in public etc. As a result you often have genius' working on a team lead by a shmuck. These teams almost always fail. HOWEVER the "shmuck" got the job because of his communication skills. I cannot tell you how many genius' (no exaggeration) that live full of resentment working for morons (again no exaggeration)

BEST CASE SCENARIO
The most powerful teams I have worked with are lead by smart people that have learned these powerful public skills. And they know how to teach and empower their team to learn the same.

Want to learn more about working on a powerful team?

I have become a huge fan of shows like SHARK TANK and THE PROFIT. These shows are reality TV that show inner workings or companies and investors. On both of these shows, wealthy investors put money into companies hoping to make a big return by investing in new or struggling firms.

Now for the record I HATE REALITY TV.

However, if you really study these programs, you learn what these powerful investors look for when looking for people to invest in... And in most cases, the people that succeed are great team players. OR the investors teaches them how to be GREAT TEAM MEMBERS.

Mario Cantone & Eddie Brill visit PAW (Queens High School)

This was amazing. Back in 2010 Spring, Eddie Brill Crowd Warmer and Comedy booker at the Letterman Show, brought Mario Cantone to meet the students Walt Frasier was teaching at the Comedy Hall of Fame Laugh It Out Program at Spring Field GArdens High School, Queens NY - Preperatory Academy for Writers.

Noel Olivencia, picture behind Mario, currently works with the professional company of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH.

Video from Weyauwega WI Gerold Opera House

TEEN FOCUS: Punchline from Weyauwega High School, WI

EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH has performed with this troupe twice now. Under the direction of High School Teacher, Carrie Gruman-Trinker, the troupe opened for us at the Gerold Opera House. During the day on both trips (November 2008 and October 2013), EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH performed at the High School. Although a small town in Wisconsin, both shows at the Gerold virtually sold out, thank mostly to the efforts of the Punchline teams marketing the shows and selling tickets to students.

100+ students from Weyauwega are visiting 8 Improv for a show & workshop at the NYC Theater in April 2014.

THOR Joins the Avengers - Sneak Peak Parody

TEEN FOCUS: Preperatory Academy for Writers, Queens New York

Walt Frasier - co-founder of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH - was named Director of Instruction for the Comedy Hall of Fame Foundation in 2009. Preperatoy Academy for Writers (PAW), one of four schools in Springfield Gardens High School Queens NY, was the very first school Walter taught LAUGH IT OUT. The growing program is in many Queens schools now. PAW is a Grade 6-12 school and the above photo features some of the 8th Graders in 2012. While the classes taught were for grades 9-12, most of these students started the after school program in 6th grade and quickly became leaders of the program. The short guy is actually Walt Frasier on his knees....

TEEN FOCUS: Brandon Ford

"Hungry as a lion gets he never eats grass because he is always dedicated to getting the carnivorous meal. That is how you have to be when being an actor in improv, especially a teen. You cannot worry about what your friends say because then it'll be a barrier to stop you from getting where you need to be. Everyone tells me that I am at a good age being 19 years old and having improv under my belt straight out of high school is an advantage and I'm slowly understanding that. A wise man once told me you need to be the best at what you do, but you'll never be good enough so you have to keep pushing and pushing to show everyone your dedication."

Brandon Ford was a student at Queens Preperatory Academy, where he took classes by EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH teachers/performers via Comedy Hall of Fame Laugh It Out Program. After graduating, Brandon became an intern helping shows and classes. Now, Brandon is the youngest member of the troupe, performing - and getting paid - outreach shows at K-12 schools, New York showcases at the Broadway Comedy Club and assisting classes.
